1 Day Desaru Fruit Farm/Ostrich Farm/Pengarang Trip

I had a tiring but fun & exciting trip yesterday. I longed for a trip & all the while i been wanting to organise a trip of my own for my family & frens.
Itinerary & programes were all planned by myself & we gotto report at the pick up point as early as 0700hrs in the morning. Oh...such a torture to wake up so early in the morning! haha...but its worth it. ^-^

Our trip goes like tis;

0700hrs-pick up
1st stop-breakfast in taman sentosa
2nd stop-visit to desaru fruit farm
3rd stop-lobster lunch in pengarang
4th stop-shop for local goodies
5th stop-visit to ostrich farm
6th stop-free & easy at tebrau city
7th stop-dinner at pekin restaurant
2030hrs-home sweet home

How do we begin our day? Of cuz its a hearty breakfast! Its where we get our main source of energy from! We picked our tour guide up from the new JB immigration & he brought us to taman sentosa for breakfast.

I had Penang Prawns Mee~something slightly different from the prawn noodle we had in singapore. The soup base is spicy & redish in colour. Served with prawns, hard-boiled egg & some greens. Not bad for the overall!
Adam had wanton mee~a rather small serving for a big boy like him. Dun reali look appealing to me. haha....

Assorted dim sums for us to share, prices is reasonable...but the taste is so so nia! keke....

And so we moved on......to Desaru Fruit Farm!
Here we are at our destination after a 1 hr plus journey. We were being greeted warmly by the local fruit farm guide & he brought us around the farm, introducing us to the wide varieties of fruits that they have.I took some pics of certain fruits, trees, plants, flowers which were uncommonly seen here in singapore.

Its reali an eye-opening for pple like us who are living in a pampered & fast pacing society, who didn't gone through kampong life. Everything is so down to earth, near to nature. Its oso an educational trip as we get to learn wat kinda plants grow & reproduce using margotting method.

The 1st fruit we were being introduced to is Bread Fruit. This is the 1st time i see this kinda fruit. Heard from my mum that singapore oso has this kinda fruit & my granny ever deep fried & serve as chips to munch.Hmm...something new to me but too bad i didn't get a chance to sample it.haha....
This is Dragon Fuit tree, it belongs to the cactus family, told by the guide that they r easy to plant but muz give them stress so they will be able to bear fruits!
These flowers juz bloomed the nite before, after it drop off will be able to bear fruits.
This is an unripe dragon fruit.Gotto wait for wks b4 it can be harvest.

Passion Fruit~I didn't noe tt its a weak steam plant which gotto creep on fence or rack to finght for sunlight to survive. I always tot its a big tree with huge fruits, suprisingly this is how it grow.

I bought a bottle of fresh passion fruit juice from the farm.
hmm....so refreshing & yummy & the seeds could be eaten as well. so crunchy inside & jello like outside.

This is Roselle~Some pple call it hibiscus flower. It taste sourish, can be use to cook tea or preserve & eat it on its own.

Ah ha...i spotted this fungus growing near the fossil where the roselle is growing.
This is the custard apple...regret that i haven ate this fruit b4 but this is mum's favourite.

Wow...wat a big bunch of bananas....the flowers could be use to cook curry as well.
Yummy durians hanging up there...so fragrant!

Coffee fruit! can't reali believe this is coffee until i tasted it.
This is how it looks like inside. I tried it...gotto suck them slowly. If bitten, there will be a bitter taste.

There are plenty of payaya trees growing in different part of the farm. Could see them wherever i go.
Such familiar plant...we plant pineapple flowers in our house as well.

Jiambu...a tropical fruit where we can find in asia.
This is the adult stage of the fruit.
There used to be 1 jiambu tree growing at the roadside near my house when i was young. Whenever we pass by that tree, jesper will call out to me & said: "ah mei...u see there r so many big toes hanging on the trees!" so funny ya...tt was when we were young & naive.

Gooseberries.....oso my 1st time come across this kinda fruit. The guide told us tt its being use in most western cooking. But so far i haven eaten b4! haha..such a "sua ku" almost everything seems 1st time to me.

Other than fruits on the farm.....there are oso some herbs & spices.....

~~Lemon grass~~

~~Orthosiphon Aristatus~~

~~Tumeric~~

~~Basil~~
uch a beautiful pong view with lots of kois....many of use use the background to take pics & feed the hungry kois here.

This is the bee house.....instead of hives, bees here stay in houses.haha...
We were being led to attend a talk to know more about how bee works & how they produce honey.

Other than honey, they have pollen, royal jelly etc....
We were given sometimes to roam around the farm & take pictures....we saw some cute & adorable animals.
Turkey~~hmm...abit late for christmas ya?!the guide told us dun bother to take pics of the turkey as christmas is already over! haha...
wow..so many goats, this is 1 of the family.

oh wat a adorable kid.. chewing on the veggie where we feed him with.Oh boy, muz be very hungry!

The owls are actually sleeping but be coz of the noisy tourists like us, making so much noise & disturbing them, 1 of the owl actually open 1 of its eyes & stare at us. haha....
Such a tiny crocodile...
Snake~so many hands molesting the snake...actually, i'm oso 1 of them! haha....the feel is so smooth & cooling.
Now i noe how come pple like to buy snake skin product. keke.....

Wild Black Chicken.....normally those black chicken i saw are those being cooked & serve in soup. This is the 1st time i seen a alive & kicking one.
This big monkey is very mischevious...tends to grab food, hats & glasses off tourists.
These pigeons are very poor thing...their wings are being cut to prevent them from flying. So evil rite? Can't they have their freedom?
Many of us are wondering how come pigeons dun fly? aren't they birds?!

B4 we left the fruit farm, each of us were given a box of ready cut fruits for us to sample. Yummy yummy....
The mango & watermelon are so sweet! oh...so fresh as well, direct from the tree.
After fruits sampling, we proceed to have our lunch taken at Goodluck restaurant.Remember uncle david? yup...we had lunch at his restaurant.

Stir Fry La La~its actually clams but we called them la la

Steamed Seabass in Garlic Soy Sauce

Stir Fry Veggie

Oh...this is my favourite Hotplate Oyster Egg.Normally when uncle david cater to tour groups, there weren't lots of oysters as compared to those times when we order invidually. haha....can be seen, even Adam said so.
Stir Fry Wild Boar Meat with Onions & Ginger

Black Pepper Crab~in fact this is the 1st time i had crab at uncle david's restaurant. Most of the time we had lobster feast.

Last but not least, lobsters....................this is a lobster lunch, how can we miss out the important character?! :D

See,everyone is enjoying the spread! yummy!
After lunch, we went to the famous confectionery to purchase some local goodies.
Throughout the whole jouney, everyone was buying at every stop over munching & munching all the way :-P
Otrich Farm, here we come!

Wow!wat a big flock of ostrichs..........b4 we arrived at the farm, my impression of ostrich farm is "hai ya, surely onli bout 10 ostrich nai, no point wasting time"
But its not wat i think, totally different. There are so many ostrichs on the farm runnung to & fro, as though they noe there are visitors!

Ostrichs's diet consist of corn, grains & some greens. Understand from the ostrich farm owner that the ostrichs here never ate a single pc of meat in their diet.
Wat a giant egg with lots of lucky numbers..........

Ostrich egg is tough, it can carry the weight of a child.

Even an adult!

I come to understand that other than peacock which is vain, ostrich are vain animals as well. When the farm owner is introducting, suddenly a tall ostrich popped out of nowhere. Maybe it noes & wan us to take photos of it.
I come to know that ostrich skin is very stretchable. It can stretch 5 times more than cow skin.
This is how ostrich bone looks like.

These cute little ostrichs are only 2 weeks onld. So cute!
I managed to snap a spiderweb near the cute little ostrichs.
This ostrich baby is even cutter, its less than 7hrs old.Needs to be kept in an incubator to keep it warm.

What???? ostrich can be eaten???

Exactly! ostrich satay are selling at $1.50 each.

I took a bite of it. Taste like chicken at 1st, as chewed further, i'm able to taste a funny stench like beef.

These are some unique table lamps made out of ostrich shells. Beautiful rite?

I saw this beautiful rooster roaming around near the fence

B4 we left the farm, i snap a photo of this tall cactus tree.

Wat's next? Shopping at Tebrau City!
Yeah.....shopping time for us! on our way back to jb, our tour guide told us a very lame joke, its a conversation between Deng Xiao Ping & an ang mo;
Ang Mo: Hi wat's your name?
Xiao Ping thinking in his heart tt the ang mo muz be asking wat's his surname: 我姓邓(Washington)
Ang Mo: Oh, Washington, wat's ur hobby?
Xiao Ping: xiao ping (Shopping)
Ang Mo: I see, so u like shopping!

That's how the explanation of shopping comes about.

As shopping time was limited, i shopped in a hassle.Managed to bought some new year clothes for Adam. We had an early dinner at bout 7pm in order to avoid the jam.
We arrived at Pekin Restaurant at taman sentosa for our dinner. Quite a posh restaurant & the ambience is nice too.

Fried Mee Sua~~i still tot its fried bee hoon until i ate it.

Wow.. this Pig Throtter is fantastic! yummy~licious.

Braised Toufu

Stir Fry Sweet Potato Leaves with Sambal Chili

Steamed Fish in Soy Sauce

Herbal Chicken
Fried Prawns in Oyster & Garlic Sauce

Assosted Fruits~hmm...had fruits for almost every meal 2day! haha...isn't tt healthy?!
After dinner, we headed back to the new malaysia immigration & parted with our tour guide. Its home sweet home time & we arrived at 8.22pm.
Wat a tiring yet enjoyable trip, all of us had fun, some suggest that i should organise a supper cum firefly trip in the near future.
