Egg Mayo Yu Zhar Kway

Dipping yu zhar kway in hot coffee before eating, serve with congee, serve with dessert, eat it on its own are the few local way of eating yu zhar kway and among all these, my favourite is still to go with the coffee. Imagine hot crispy yu zhar kway soak with hot fragrant coffee, pop into the mouth with coffee oozing out yet there's still crunch of the yu zhar kway.... Wow...simply fantastic. :-P
I have another innovative way of eating yu zhar kway. That is with my favourite egg mayo. I've always love egg mayo toast and this time round, instead of on toasted bread, i stuffed them into yu  zhar kway and topped with some shredded lettuce and tomato slices. Delicious!

Tanjong Rhu Pau

Dad brought home some paus from the famous Tanjong Rhu Pau & Confectionery. And the best thing I like is.... it's all meat paus. lolz.... I been wanting to try their meat paus as so far in my memories, I've onlu tried their red bean paus and its yummy.

Their paus are usually smaller in sizes as compared to other brands or places. Well, can say it's small & unique, probably to cater to 一口包.

Here's their bid meat paus. So "big" right? They are actually the size of normal char siew paus.

And here are their char siew paus, my Favourite!

Look at the juicy and moist fillings inside! I'm loving it :-)

Appam Breakfast

I got an invitation to enjoy Appam breakfast @ Aunty Sarah's place this morning. Hey, i can take tis as an learning opportunity to learn the skill of cooking Appam.

Delicious Appam served with brown suagr.

Here's aunty sarah's demostration:

Get ready the Appam's pan and heat it up. The rice mixture was grained earlier on and left to rise.

Greased the pan and pour 1 ladleful of mixture in, swirl the pan and cover.

Remove from heat when browned on the sides.

Scoop out and serve with brown sugar or coconut milk mixture.

Uncle David prefers it with coconut milk and he's demonstrating on how to eat.

Yes, demostrating on his preferred way. And he says out the procedures... tear appam into smaller pieces, dip into sweetened coconut milk, twirl 2 rounds or let it swim 2 laps and pop into the mouth. Wow...shiok ar.

Here's mine where i made myself. Looks great for a lst timer rite? And serve with with a cup of hot coffee. Taste great!

Mee Siam Breakfast

Singapore's Election will be held on 7th May and since the news of elections announced, the topic of voting has been an 'IN' topic for all.

As Dad suddenly requested for me to cook mee siam on Easter Sunday Morning, I decided to do so as Adam do has little bit craving for it. However, we held a home election on friday night as mum came in as the opposition party. Hence we were to vote for either
1. Dad, the mee siam party OR
2. Mum, the wanton mee party

Adam voted for mee siam as he too been craving for it. Whereas, Jesper gave up his chance to vote coz he dun eat mee siam therefore if we were to cook mee siam, i juz need to cook a fried rice for him will do.

This time round, i added more tamarind paste, rempah, chili and prawns for my mee siam. A spicy and sour mee siam for breakfast on Easter sunday.

Came across a giant 虾米 while pounding the dried shrimps! See the difference.....

Fatt Soon Kuah

I been craving for soon kueh recently the crave increased after Sammi told me she had it for breakfast the other day. I'm the kind who can't resist temptations especially when it comes to food. Thus, decided to try it out.

I can choose to have a mixture of the assorted kueh rather than onli soon kueh. Here's my assortment and the soon kuehs are relatively small, pathetic fillings but the texture of the skin is Q and smooth.

This is how Fatt Soon Kueh brand looks like, think i haven had enough of my soon kueh craze. :-P I will definately go in search for more...

Paper Thosai

Aunty Sarah prepared some paper thosai with ginjelly oil for me this morning. Wow... using ginjelly oil in indian cooking is a healthier option. It is something like our olive oil, other than that it also enhanced the fragrance of the food.

Hot and crispy paper thosai, serve with pepper mint chutney.

What is Chutney?
Well, it is a class of spicy preparations used as an accompaniment for a main dish and they usually contains an idiosyncratic but complementary spice and vegetable mix.

Our Breakfast Makan Trip

Its been ages since we last had breakfast & does some shopping at the market together. We used to does that every sunday when the market near our place is still around. But too bad, its been demolised last year.
In my early childhood days, dad would bring our whole family to Lorong Ah Soo market every sundays for breakfasts & drove us back b4 he goes to work.Erm..at that time dad has a car, but until Adam was born, the car was sold.

Since Jeaper & Adam was at home today & i need not work, all of us wake up early. So i suggested going to Lorong Ah Soo at hougang ave 1 for breakfast. As soon as Adam heard that, he immediately went back to sleep. He's juz being lazy as its quite inconvenient to travel from our place to there. Nvm, we still went ahead without him.

I wanted to eat nasi lemak from my favourite stall, however most of the famous stall had long Q, and the nasi lemak Q was untill the escalator. I counted, needs to Q at least 1/2 an hour b4 i get to eat. By den i waould faint as i'm already starving. Looks like i'm not fated to eat the nasi lemak, the precvious time i went late, by time it reached my turn to order, the auntie told mi she ran out of rice. :-(
Oh come on, singapore is a food paradise, no nasi lemak for me, i can always eat other food! haha....

My favourite Lor Mee from Fu Yuan Cooked Food #02-36.

Mum had Laksa from Fu Yuan Cooked Food #02-36. I bought her a fried doughstick to dip the laksa gravy! yummy...tt's how i always eat & i insist mum to try this method out. haha....She loves the combination, but the gravy isn't as nice, if its much thicker, that would be wonderful!
Jesper had fried vegetarian bee hoon from Shan Yuan Vegetarian #02-03. Heard from Jesper that its 1 of the popular stall there.

Jesper bought this famous carrot cake from Hup Huat Carrot #02-35. As the Q is rather long, Jesper Q for more than 10mins juz to eat this plate of carrot cake. Hmm...somehow or rather i remembered having eaten from this stall when i was in my early childhood. haha....

Soy bean milk & chin chow soy bean milk drink. Oh i was too thirsty, onli wanna drink it as soon as possible, therefore i forgot to note down the stall name & unit number.
My favourite red bean ham chi peng, butterfly from Cheng Fu You Tian #02-34.Oh ya btw, the fried doughstick which i got for mum for her laksa was oso from this stall. Yummy...all these fried food especially you tian is best to be eaten while its hot.
As Adam didn't join us for breakfast, i bought some of his favourite butterfly home for him.

Wow...crystal pau!
There's this shop~Molly's which sells lots of nonya kuehs, buns, bread stall, otah, nasi lemak in banana leaves etc....everything there looks so delicious, and its crowded as well.I juz feel like trying everything but i'm too full.
I bought this white crystal pau for Adam. The fillings inside is juz like soon kush.
Normally for these kinda crystal pau, they are available in black & white. White cystals are the salty ones with soon kueh fillings, whereas the black crystals are the sweet ones with red bean paste fillings.
I saw some green colour dim sum paus which looks like jade, & its glutinous rice with dried shrimps, oso a salty fillings.

Overal comment for our makan breakfast trip; enjoyable but tired as we gotto walk quite a distance. There's no direct bus from our place & we gotto walk to kovan to take bus home & by time we reach home, its already pass noon. All the food are being digested. haha.... wat to do? eat again! :-P
