Shepherd's Pie

This is 1 of the dish on Christmas menu. I been wanting to bake a special shepherd's pie for this special day. Oh well, special not in a way of its' shape but unique in the ingredients. Original recipe calls for ground beef and Worcestershire sauce. However, i replaced the meat with minced pork and as for the seasoning, i mixed my own.
Result turns out to be PERFECT!!!

Ingredients for potato layer;
2 medium potato, steamed and mashed
3/4 tbsp butter
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp milk
Oilve oil

Ingredients for meat layer;
200g minced pork
2 baby carrot, diced
1 celery stick, diced
1 large onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
Pinch of salt
Dashes of ground white pepper
Pinch of black pepper
Stock / water
Oil for frying

Sauce;
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 1/2 tbsp tomato ketchup
1/2 tsp home cooked chili paste with chili oil
1/2 tsp sugar
30ml water
1/2 tsp corn flour

Ingredients;
-Marinate minced pork with some salt, baking soda and oil for 30 mins b4 frying.
-Fry ingredients for meat layer till almost done, add some stock and simmer.
-Stir in sauce and continue to simmer till gravy thicken.
-Pour meat mixture onto a greased baking dish.
-Prepare potato layer by mixing all the ingredients together except olive oil.
-When it is done, lay spoonful by spoonful potato mixture carefully over meat layer.
-Use a fork to drawn some pattern on top layer.
-Drizzle some olive oil over.
-Bake in preheated oven till top is lightly browned.
-Enjoy!

Throughout dinner, Adam focused very much on the pie itself. And since it was so beautifully, he couldn't bear to destroy the overall look. In the end i was the 'destroyer' who scooped the pie with my spoon. Haha... Hey, inside looks yummy ya!

Merry Christmas 2010

Merry Christmas! It is year of advert and a joyous occasion which calls for a celebration.

Hmm... actually i don't really understand on 1 point. Christmas is celebrated widely across the world but izzit meant to be celebrated on Christmas Eve or on the actual day itself?

The main objective is to celebrate the birth of Christ and since Jesus was born on Christmas, by right the celebration should take place on 25th Dec rite? How come seems like everyone celebrate on 24th in order to welcome Christmas?!
Erm... I'm not very sure and i will check it out with Tab when she's back from her holiday trip.
Golden Fish Bite

Instant Mushroom Soup with Garlic Toast

Shepherd's Pie

Chili Prawn Spaghetti

Last but not least, wishing all readers a Blessed Christmas and may all dream comes true on this joyous occasion.

A Brand New Kovan Food Center

Kovan Food Center is finally opened. All of us are looking forward to it. Y are we so looking forward? Well, becoz life is reali miserable without it especially during lunch time.
My office is around the area and during the 6 months, we are sick and tired of coffeeshop food. We would say the same sentence everyday: "Hai yo, dunno what to eat for lunch lei, so sianz..." haha... but no need to worry anymore. Now with the opening of the food center, we get to try different stalls everyday.

Spacious and airy environment.

Some stalls will remain the sae whereas there are a few new stalls.
Let me introduce the few new stalls....we have

Japanese Food
The bento set is great!

Dessert
Wow... mango snow mountain, top with a scoop of mango ice cream. $4.50 for a serving like this, erm... better get more people to share as Eileen & Jac can't even finish after sharing.

Mango jelly beancurd @ $2.50. Something new ya, it is fantastic.

A new chwee kueh stall which is an ideal food for breakfast. Standard pricing of $1 for 4 pieces.

Mee Soto with Chicken Wings, both the mee sotos are from different stall. Competitive enough for the both of them to be side by side. Each stalls has their own specialty to attract different crowd. I myself love different dishes from different stalls, same goes for rest of my colleagues. Hey trust me, i've done surveys! ;-P

Mee rebus

Prawn Noodle Dry

Batang Fish Bee Hoon Soup

Another super long Q noodle stall.
Oh well, since we were sitting near this stall and i am lazy to walk far, decided to give it a try and this is the 1st time i'm eating noodles from this stall after it has been in the food center since i was a kid.

Erm... the noodles taste normal to me. Nothing special and i wonder how come there's always a long Q?!
Oh well, these are the few shots which i took over the weeks and i will try my best to venture more stalls. Cheers!

BBQ Assam Fish

This dish reminds me of BBQ stingray where it used to be my craze during my secondary school days. It is a popular trend to hang out at "chomp chomp" after school and the "must order dishes" are bbq stingray, clams, sotong, fried carrot cake, satay bee hoon, sugarcane jucie, beancurd etc... Wow... i missed the old days! And those were the days where i was being introduced to bbq seafood.
In order to recap the sweet memories, i decided to prepare a bbq assam fish.

Ingredients;
1 fish
1 large onion
1 lime
Assam chili
Chili oil
-Greased aluminium foil with chili oil.
-Lay fish onto foil sheet, spread assam chili on top.
-Wrap and bake for 25 mins
-Open aluminium foil, top with oinions and bake at higher temperature for another 5 mins.
-Remove and squeeze fresh lime over.
-Enjoy!

Assam chili ingredients;
12 shallots, minced

5 chili padi, minced
2 large chili, minced
1 tsp chili paste
Oil
Sugar
Assam paste
Water
-Mix assam paste and water together, squeze and filter.
-Fry shallots and chili in oil till browned.
-Push mixture to side of wok, fry chill paste till fragrant.
-Mix well and add in assam juice.
-Add sugar to taste.

Wow... look at the tender meat inside. The cooking time is juz nice.

Lunch @ Pu Tien Restaurant

We have heard so much about Pu Tien Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant which serve Heng Hua cuisine. Being a heng hua, other than our home cooked heng hua dishes, we have yet to have a chance to savour heng hua dishes sold outside. It is such a shame rite? haha... In order to enhance our heng hua dishes, we decided to try out the food.

Neat & nice table setting

Just by looking at the pictures on the menu makes me drool. I can't wait to place order!

Pu Tien Chili Sauce~their store made signature.

Fried Trotter with Pepper

Hmm... so delicious! Crispy yet not oily, a mild touch of spicy and salty enhanced the flavour of the trotter.

Look at the layer of COLLAGEN inside. I simply love it. Erm.. seems like i gotto go on diet soon. Alright, that will be my new year resolution.

Pu Tien Lor Mee

Heng Hua Fried Bee Hoon

Fried Rice Cake~my favorite dish among all.

In order to celebrate dong zhi and to thank customers' support, each customer is given a bowl of tang yuan and it's on the house!
